Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the emerging discipline of getting recommended by AI answer engines — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Copilot — when users ask them for solutions. Instead of ranking in a list of blue links, the goal is to be the app the assistant names in its answer.

AEO draws on signals these models rely on: authoritative third-party content, structured data, consistent brand descriptions across the web, reviews, and reputable mentions. Because models synthesize from many sources, AEO is as much digital PR and content as it is technical.

For app marketers, AEO is the natural extension of ASO into a world where a growing share of “which app should I use?” questions are answered by an AI rather than a store search.
