Keyword Ranking
A keyword ranking is your app’s position in the app store search results for a specific search term — the core ASO performance metric.
A keyword ranking is the position at which your app appears when a user searches a given term in the App Store or Google Play. Ranking #1 for a high-volume keyword can drive a large share of a category’s organic installs, because the top three results capture the overwhelming majority of taps.
Rankings are determined by relevance (does your metadata match the query?) and authority signals (install velocity, retention, ratings, and engagement). They fluctuate daily and vary by country, so ASO teams track rankings per keyword, per storefront, over time.
The goal is not to rank for everything, but to rank highly for terms that are both relevant to your app and have enough search volume to matter.
