Prompt share of voice (SOV) is an AI-discovery metric: across a defined set of user prompts in your category, what share of the answers mention your app relative to competitors? If users ask ten variations of “best budgeting app” and you appear in four answers, your prompt SOV is roughly 40%.

It generalizes the classic share-of-voice idea to answer engines, letting you benchmark your AI presence against rivals and spot prompts where competitors dominate. Tracking it over time shows whether your AEO/GEO efforts are working.

Because answers differ by model, prompt SOV is most meaningful when measured per engine and aggregated across a stable, representative prompt set.
