Review Velocity

Review velocity is the rate at which an app accumulates new ratings and reviews over time — a freshness and momentum signal.

Review velocity measures how quickly your app gains new ratings and reviews. A steady or accelerating flow of recent, positive reviews signals to both users and store algorithms that the app is actively used and well-maintained.

Velocity matters because recency is weighted: a burst of fresh five-star reviews can lift your displayed average and reassure prospective users far more than old reviews. Conversely, a sudden spike of negative reviews — after a buggy update, say — is an early warning that conversion and rank are about to suffer.

Healthy velocity comes from well-timed in-app rating prompts shown after positive moments, not from incentivized or purchased reviews.
